What Should Superintendents Know About Your Company? We’re a 3-year-old company that offers proprietary products that work hard, but are softer. We have a strong sustainability focus and a technically knowledgeable sales staff. All products come with university research and validated efficacy from the field. We’re continually seeking new, unique products that provide effective alternatives to the green industry.

What do you do all day in your job?

Coffee, email, phone calls and then customer followups. Later in the day, I check inventory, order from suppliers and work on “creating the future.” If traveling, I listen and discuss business with as many customers as possible.

When you’re gone from the golf industry, how do you want to be remembered?

I developed some good people and introduced new technologies that made a difference. Right now, we’re busy launching RegaliaPTO biofungicide, GrandevoPTO bio-insecticide and Integrate water-saving surfactants. I launched Merit and Bayer Advanced Lawn & Garden whilst Head of the Bayer Pro Products business. I launched Tourney, Stellar, Velocity and Arena whilst president of Valent U.S.A. I’m also proud of the many great people in those teams that developed into top-notch turf industry contributors.

Best thing about the golf industry:

The people and the great places where golf courses are. Mother Nature and superintendents create magical experiences.

Worst thing about the golf industry:

Slow play! I love a 2.5-hour round in the evening at Talking Rock Ranch where I live in Prescott, Ariz.

What golf course can’t you wait to get on and why?

It’s got to be Augusta National. I’ve walked it a few times, and I know every hole from years of watching it on TV.

Describe golf course superintendents in one word?

“Magic makers.” OK, that was two words.

If you have four hours to watch TV, what do you watch?

An English Premier League match, and then I call my dad in England to discuss it.

What do you like to do away from your job?

Golf, I love the game. I also enjoy hiking, reading and trips back to England to see my parents.
