Dr. Stephen W. Smith will be awarded the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC) Roy Williams Memorial Award at this year’s annual conference. Smith, the owner of Wade Water LLC and Buena Vida Farm in Fort Collins, Colorado, has 40 years of experience and involvement as an innovator, educator and advocate in the industry. His specialties include irrigation and water rights engineering, irrigation automation and control, and canal modernization.

In 1975, Smith launched Aqua Engineering, Inc., to provide specialized irrigation engineering services to public and private clientele. He also worked as research faculty at Colorado State University. Smith’s published work includes a textbook and two technical papers. He is currently the U.S. Head of Delegation to two International Standards Organization committees involving irrigation and water reuse, and an active member and past national president of ASIC. He holds three degrees in Agricultural Engineering from Colorado State University and New Mexico State University.

Named after an ASIC founder, the Roy Williams Award is given to an individual, organization or business with significant contributions to the irrigation industry.
