New Tekken™ Fungicide Available for Sale
PBI-Gordon Corporation announced that Tekken™ Broad Spectrum Fungicide is now available for sale. Approved for use on golf course greens, tees and fairways only, Tekken features one convenient rate to control Dollar Spot, the top disease issue for superintendents. It also can be used to treat Anthracnose, Brown Patch, and 18 more of the most problematic diseases for cool- and warm-season turf.  Tekken’s dual mode of action—through its proprietary blend of active ingredients isofetamid and tebuconazole—provides preventative, systemic control for up to 28 days per application. Its patent-pending formulation delivers increased turf quality, and reduces phytotoxicity and thinning of creeping bentgrass (when compared to stand-alone DMI applications). A FRAC Group 7 + 3 flowable suspension concentrate, it should be used in a regularly scheduled preventative spray program and rotated with products that have different modes of action.

USGA Announces Winners of 2018 Service Awards
In recognition of outstanding contributions to the game of golf, the United States Golf Association (USGA) announced its annual Service Awards winners. The individuals will be recognized on Saturday, Feb. 3 during a gala dinner at the USGA Annual Meeting in Miami Beach, Florida. This year’s USGA Service Awards celebrate the leadership, dedication and exemplary efforts of 26 individuals who have devoted their time and talents to serve the game. Award winners include the following: Gilbert “Gib” Palmer, Joe Dey Award; Dr. Lane Demas, Herbert Warren Wind Book Award; Tim Hiers, Green Section Award.

PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan Named World Golf Foundation Chairman for 2018
World Golf Foundation (WGF) announcedJay Monahan, PGA TOUR Commissioner, has been named WGF Chairman for 2018 by the Board of Directors. He succeeds LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan. Monahan was appointed the fourth commissioner of the PGA TOUR on November 7, 2016, officially taking office and succeeding former Commissioner Tim Finchem on January 1, 2017. Monahan, who joined the PGA TOUR in June 2008 as Executive Director of THE PLAYERS Championship, had served as Deputy Commissioner since April 1, 2014; he assumed the additional title of Chief Operating Officer in early 2016, working directly with Commissioner Finchem on the entire scope of the TOUR’s business operations and strategy.

Nufarm and GCSAA to Welcome Inaugural EXCEL Leadership Program Class to GIS 2018
Nufarm and GCSAA will welcome inaugural EXCEL Leadership Program members to five days of learning and engagement in conjunction with the 2018 Golf Industry Show (GIS) this February in San Antonio, Texas. In October 2017, Nufarm and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) announced their partnership in the creation of the EXCEL Leadership Program to offer leading-edge development opportunities for future golf course management leaders.

The inaugural members of the EXCEL Leadership Program are as follows:

Green Industry Veteran Murray Wingate Joins Solu-Cal USA
Murray Wingate of Rochester, New York has joined Solu-Cal USA as a Senior Territory Manager for the company’s line of Enhanced Calcium and Humic Acid soil amendments. He spent 25 years at Lebanon Seaboard Corporation in roles encompassing sales management, product development, marketing, and International business. Wingate will join the Solu-Cal team at the company’s booth 8081 in San Antonio at the Golf Industry Show.

Aquatrols Presents Paul Carter with Inaugural Conservation Award
Aquatrols has named Paul Carter the inaugural recipient of the Aquatrols Conservation Award. Carter, a certified golf course superintendent (CGCS) at Bear Trace (Harrison Bay, Tenn.) for the last 16 years, will be recognized Wednesday, February 7 during a presentation at the 2018 Golf Industry Show in San Antonio, Texas (Booth #5097). Carter’s additional accolades include the President’s Award for Environmental Stewardship by the Board of Directors of the GCSAA (2015), GCSAA national public and overall Environmental Leadership in Golf Award (2013), TurfNet’s Superintendent of the Year (2011), and four consecutive regional awards for environmental leadership (2009 – 2012). He holds a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture-Landscape Design from Auburn University.
