As year-end reviews go, well, things can always be brighter. But several things stand out to me as positive notes for 2016 that can be celebrated and built upon as we turn the page on another year in the calendar. The 2016 Golf Industry Show showed positive signs of rebound in terms of attendance at 12,600, and the industry enjoyed higher rounds played for the year than in 2015, according to the National Golf Foundation.

This year we worked as a team to bring you a best-in-class editorial product to help those that make up the backbone of this industry, you, our readers, more effective in your day-to-day operations. We’ve launched several new digital products in 2016. Tournament previews; an expanded social media presence; coverage of the industry’s most challenging diseases, pests and weeds; a technology series showcasing innovative products that can help you save time and money; and our annual water and sustainability coverage. These packages hopefully kept you up to speed on one of the industry’s most pressing challenges – water – and techniques to help you move toward sustainable practices.

A change in the calendar year also presents an opportunity to reflect. The last five years, Superintendent Magazine has grown in readership (thanks to you for keeping that subscription current!); coverage of industry issues and challenges; and digitally with an expanded website, e-newsletter offerings, and socially on Twitter and Facebook. And, we could not have done that without Larry Aylward.

As we close the chapter on 2016 and move forward into 2017, we will be embarking on a new journey here at Superintendent Magazine. Most of you already know that Larry Aylward has decided to accept a new position with another company. While this is definitely sad for us here at Superintendent Magazine, we wish Larry the best in his new endeavors. While we will miss Larry’s passion and industry knowledge, we have been hard at work looking for the industry’s newest voice, which we will be announcing very soon.

It’s true what they say about change, the old adage of the “glass half full or glass half empty.” Change can be viewed both positively and negatively. Change is usually based on how one perceives the situation. In this case, we hope you, our readers, will embrace and actively comment on the changes we are going through here at Superintendent Magazine.
