Redexim Celebrates Anniversary, Enters Agreement with Blec Global

Redexim Charterhouse, Inc. announced the 30th anniversary of its parent company, Redexim BV, and of its Verti-Drain deep-tine aerator. In recognition of the milestone, Redexim Charterhouse has changed its name to Redexim North America.

The company also announced a joint marketing and manufacturing venture between Redexim BV and Blec Global Ltd. As part of the agreement, Redexim BV has acquired the rights to manufacture and market a range of machines, including the Sandmaster and other specialty products. Redexim North America displayed the new range of machines at the 2010 Golf Industry Show.

IFH Group Receives Certification

The Innovative Fluid Handling Group has received ISO 9001:2008 certification. The standard certifies that the company meets specific requirements for a quality management system, demonstrates its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and enhances customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement and the assurance of conformity to requirements.

T-Zone Label in Spanish

A Spanish version of the label for T-Zone herbicide is now available on the PBI/Gordon Web site. The company began adding Spanish labels to its Web site in the fall of 2003. Spanish label translations can be accessed at http://pbigordon.com/professional or requested by calling 800-821-7925.

DuPont Acelepryn Receives New York Registration

DuPont Professional Products announced that DuPont Acelepryn insecticide is now registered for use in New York, excluding the counties of Long Island (Nassau, Suffolk, Kings and Queens). The product controls 10 key white grub species, plus surface-feeding insects, and was classified by the Environmental Protection Agency as reduced-risk for applications to turfgrass.

RIGCSA Awards Scholarships

The Rhode Island Golf Course Superintendents Association awarded $12,000 in scholarships for the year 2010. Recipients include Emily R. Carlone, Craig Richard and Leslie Sykes, University of Rhode Island; Melinda Lawlor, Worcester State College; Thomas Lund, Quinnipiac University; and Kathryn Wallace, University of Connecticut. Kathleen Reynolds, St. Joseph School of Nursing, received the Ryan Reynolds Legacy Scholarship, and Chris Clavet, University of Rhode Island, received the C. Richard Skogley Memorial Scholarship.

MetGCSA Announces Award Recipients

The Metropolitan Golf Course Superintendents Association awarded its John Reid Lifetime Achievement Award to David Oatis, director of the USGA Green Section’s Northeast Region. Scott Niven, turfgrass management professional at The Stanwich Club, Greenwich, Conn., received the Sherwood A. Moore Award.

Toro Donates to Haiti Relief Efforts

In response to the earthquake that devastated Haiti, the Toro Co. donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross International Response Fund to aid in the relief efforts. Additionally, the company committed to matching all employee contributions to the Red Cross through March 1, 2010.

Harrell’s to Distribute Econem

Pasteuria Bioscience and Harrell’s LLC have completed an agreement by which Harrell’s will act as exclusive distributor for Econem biological nematicide. It will be marketed to the golf course, sports turf and landscape management industries in Florida and select southeastern states.

Iowa GCSA Announces Awards

The Iowa Golf Course Superintendents Association presented its first Environmental Stewardship Award to Brett Hetland, Brooks National Golf Club, Okoboji, Iowa. He is a proven leader in environmental management and serves on the GCSAA Environmental Programs Committee. Brooks National is a certified Audubon property.

The association named Greg Willman, South Course, Des Moines Golf & Country Club, West Des Moines, Iowa, Superintendent of the Year. He has been a member of the Iowa GCSA for 12 years and has been at Des Moines since 2004.

Organizations Support Golf Carbon Project

The National Turfgrass Federation, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and Environmental Institute for Golf expressed their appreciation of the Colorado Golf Carbon Project in letters of support. The project is a joint effort between Golfpreserves and the allied golf associations of Colorado. It aims to develop a carbon emission and carbon sequestration data collection system for Colorado golf courses, document sequestered carbon at those courses on an annual basis and create marketable offsets.

Finchem Receives Donald Ross Award

Tim Finchem, commissioner of the PGA TOUR, was chosen to receive the 2010 Donald Ross Award from the American Society of Golf Course Architects. He joined the TOUR staff in 1978 as vice president of business affairs and became commissioner in 1994. The Donald Ross Award is given annually to an individual who has made a positive impact on golf and golf course architecture.

NGCOA Announces Award Winners

The National Golf Course Owners Association named Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms as its 2010 Golf Course of the Year. It is located on the site of a former Los Angeles landfill and underwent a $60 million renovation.

The NGCOA also named Firestone Country Club, Akron, Ohio, as the winner of the Jemsek Award for Golf Course Excellence. The history of Firestone dates to 1929, when it began as a facility for the employees of Firestone Tire & Rubber Co.

Other award winners include The First Tee, Award of Merit; Meriam Leeke, Don Rossi Award; Charlie Birney, Del Ratcliffe and Ted Horton, Champion Award; Juday Creek, Granger, Ind., Player Development Award; and the late Beryl Artz, Paul Porter Award.

Signature to Manage River Oaks

Signature Golf Group has been hired by River Oaks LLC to be the management company for River Oaks Golf Plantation. Signature has been working with Craig Schreiner of Schreiner Golf, Inc. on course renovations at the facility.

Turfgrass Students Hold Symposium

First-year University of Guelph turfgrass management students held a symposium at the Cutten Club, attended by more than 120 golf course superintendents, industry representatives, university faculty and students. The symposium focused on how to survive and thrive in an unstable economy, and included speakers Dr. Tom Hsiang, Ron Schiedel and Keith Bartlett.
