New Weed Weapon

Katana herbicide from PBI/Gordon is designed to control sedge, kyllinga and broadleaf weeds and can also be used as a transition aid for bermudagrass, zoysiagrass and centipedegrass. The sulfonylurea formulation has postemergent and limited preemergent activity due to its absorption via foliar and root uptake. It is effective at low rates and at cool temperatures. In university testing, it has excelled in removing cool-season grasses from warm-season turf, including ryegrass, clumpy ryegrass, Poa annua, Poa trivialis and other annual ryegrasses. It can be mixed with urea for improved Poa control and to feed warm-season turf.

Precision Hole Cutter

Par Aide now offers the HIO Hole Cutter, a pound-in type of hole cutter that provides ease of use. It produces perfectly round holes with clean edges. Easy for all crew members to operate, it does not require any twisting, so it is not hard on arms and shoulders. Its powerful action works well on clay-based push-up greens. It achieves uniform hole depth.

Green Filtration

Forsta Filters has released Green-Clean technology, which reduces backwash wastewater by as much as 75 percent. Without interrupting system flow during backwash, Green-Clean technology utilizes smaller flush valves to minimize the volume of water required to remove buildup on an irrigation filter element. Using internal vacuum nozzles, the system scans and removes debris from the filter in 15 seconds or less. Integrating the technology in the company’s line of self-cleaning water filters maximizes efficiency and reduces wastewater and energy costs. The filters range from 1 to 36-inch flange sizes and are constructed of stainless steel.

Bigger Bunker Rake

Bunker-Magic has introduced its new “super-sized” cylinder-head sand trap rake, the 25-inch Sand-Dancer^X1. It has the same design characteristics as the 15-inch Sand-Dancer. It is available with a black or dark green head with a 60-inch fiberglass or powder-coated metal alloy handle.

Electric-Powered Topdresser

TurfEx has introduced its 1.4-cubic-yard-capacity MS4500 topdresser. The unit is constructed of heavy-duty polyethylene, has large flotation tires and exerts only 18 PSI when fully loaded. It is completely electric powered and offers precision spreading ability. An 18-inch steel spinner with adjustable fins angle to accurately direct material spreading. Additionally, an electronically controlled flow gate and advanced dual-variable speed controller with digital readout further ensure precise material feed and spread pattern. The hopper includes the TurfEx baffle material flow system and is equipped with an auger for feed and control of heavier bulk materials. A standard vibrator breaks up clumping. An integrated trailer, clear/fitted hopper cover and top screen are standard.

Desktop Turf Management

TurfScout brings precision turf management and spectral mapping to your desktop. The online data processing system, from TurfScout LLC, makes sophisticated “sensing” as easy as downloading pictures from a digital camera. The TurfScout service processes data from commercially available light sensors; provides a quantitative, unbiased measure of turfgrass quality; and uses GPS to create maps and charts of turf quality. Sensors also measure non-visible, near-infrared wavelengths, so TurfScout maps show early warning signs of stress that might be overlooked by the naked eye. The online mapping system provides three types of stress maps, charts and a dashboard for data management. It also offers more advanced features that can be used to test almost anything that affects turfgrass health.

Nozzle Options

Rain Bird now offers a full line of Hose-End Nozzles and Quick Connect Couplers. The nozzles are available with high, medium and low flow rates. All flow rates have a 1-inch inlet, while the medium flow also has a .75-inch option. The couplers are available to make attaching or changing nozzles fast and easy. Each nozzle features an adjustable spray pattern to deliver the right water distribution for any application. The nozzles are made of powder-coated aluminum with a high-grade rubber bumper.

Get Rid of Pest Birds

Bird-B-Gone has introduced Avian Plus, a bird hazing system that uses natural scents to deter pest birds from enclosed and semi-enclosed areas. It is a small, wall-mounted unit that emits a nontoxic, nonallergenic scent that is pleasing to humans and unbearable to birds. The natural scents make pest birds feel unbalanced, creating an environment they will want to avoid. It works continuously to produce an invisible vapor and maintain a constant level of hazing scent. Avian Plus leaves no residue behind. Each unit is computer-controlled and can be programmed to fit the size and space of the area. It is available in two sizes to serve spaces up to 250,000 cubic feet per unit.

Remote Rodent Removal

Meyer Industries’ Rodenator R3 pest elimination system builds on the Rodenator line by adding remote detonation and 20 percent more power. The R3 delivers a precision underground shock wave to the targeted animals’ tunnels and dens, eliminating the rodents and collapsing their tunnel systems. It provides wired, hands-free detonation at a distance of up to 25 feet. The system injects a calibrated mix of propane and oxygen into burrows. The mixture of gases sinks to the lowest part of the burrow, then expands when the operator activates it, creating a high-pressure shock wave.

Say Goodbye to Thatch

C.S. Trading launched the Sisis Auto-Rotorake MK5 dethatcher, which incorporates a reel of blades that rotate at high speed in the opposite direction to that of a conventional reel mower. The new model offers an increased working width, a cutting reel safety brake and a range of optional blades and spacers. Powered by a 6 hp Honda engine, it has operator presence controls designed for maximum operator safety. The control for depth of cut requires no tools and is mounted to the handle to enable depth to be set while moving forward. A full differential ensures ease of turning and minimal surface marking.

Turf Blend

Turf Blend 6-0-0 from Converted Organics is an all-natural liquid fertilizer that is water-soluble. Its nutrients are derived from L-lysine amino acid and food waste compost. The blend of nutrients actively feeds both the turf and the soil and provides a high-quality, fully pasteurized fertilizer for greens and tees.

Stay on Course

The TXT 48 fleet golf car, new from E-Z-GO, features a 48-volt DC drivetrain and a TruCourse Technology system that allows course operators to customize performance characteristics to match the unique topography and conditions of their course. It has a welded, tubular steel frame with powder-coat protection; scratch-resistant body panels; slip-resistant floor mats; a walkaway braking alarm; and center-mounted cup, ball and tee holders. An optional hand-held diagnostic tool allows for more precise customization and provides immediate information on the status of key vehicle systems. The vehicle also features improved regenerative braking, enhanced downhill speed control and a charger lockout feature that disables the vehicle while the charger is plugged in.

New Transmission Option

Bobcat has launched a semi-synchronized gear transmission option on its CT335, CT445 and CT450 compact tractor models. The new SST transmission features 12 forward gears and 12 reverse gears with shuttle shift capabilities for ease of use. It complements Bobcat’s hydrostatic transmission models. The SST provides optimal PTO output and efficiencies for use in applications such as mowing. These models also work well in applications such as spraying and seeding, where a specific speed needs to be maintained.
